Hi!
I am a postdoctoral associate in the group of Sophia E. Economou and Edwin Barnes at Virginia Tech. Some of my interests include quantum algorithms, classical and quantum simulation of quantum systems, adaptive variational state preparation protocols, and measurement-based quantum computing.
I did my PhD under the supervision of Sophia E. Economou, Luís P. Santos, and Ernesto F. Galvão. The focus of my thesis was on studying, implementing, and developing NISQ-friendly variational quantum algorithms, particularly adaptive ansätze for quantum chemistry and other applications.
During my PhD, I was based at Virginia Tech, where I worked as a research assistant. I additionally had remote affiliations with the Quantum and Linear-Optical Computation (QLOC) research group at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) and the High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab), a R&D centre of the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC TEC). I successfully defended my PhD at the University of Minho in May 2026.
Before my PhD I completed an Integrated Master’s degree in Engineering Physics in 2021, specializing in quantum information and quantum computing. You can find my MSc Thesis, titled Ansätze for Noisy Variational Quantum Eigensolvers, here.
For more details, I refer to my CV.
